Community Servant & Advocate

Michelle currently serves on Lewisville ISD Board of Trustees, Place 6 and has served Lewisville ISD’s students and teachers for more than 8 years, in many capacities.  She has served as president of the Lewisville ISD Council of PTAs, the governing body of all PTAs in the district and currently serves as the Advocacy Chair. Her leadership has extended throughout Texas by working alongside Texas PTA on various leadership committees.

In addition to PTA service, Michelle has served in many LISD programs, including the Superintendent’s Parent Advisory Committee, District Advisory Committee, Long Range Growth Planning Committee, District Advocacy Committee and local campus Building Leadership Teams.  She currently is a board member with the Lewisville ISD Education Foundation and is a graduate of the Inside LISD Leadership Program.

Michelle’s strengths in education and leadership stem from her experience as a teacher and administrator in education.  “I believe that my experience in education and my various volunteer positions within the district have been an integral part of growing myself as a leader. I have been an active Board of Trustee by attending various school and district events, visiting campuses, volunteering on campuses, and working with community members.  My hands-on experiences and understanding of how the district operates grants me the opportunity to become an advocate for ALL children in Lewisville Independent School District.”

Michelle Alkhatib Announces Candidacy for Lewisville ISD Board of Trustees District 1

Michelle Alkhatib, a dedicated advocate for education and community engagement, has officially announced her candidacy for the Lewisville ISD Independent School District Board of Trustees Place 1. With a passion for student success and a commitment to transparency, Michelle aims to continue to bring thoughtful leadership to the LISD Board.

Last year, during Michelle’s current term as a Trustee, the LISD Board of Trustees faced a pivotal moment. A lawsuit prompted a settlement that would transition the district to five single-member districts and two at-large seats, starting with the May 2024 election. While Michelle’s current term for Place 6 extends until May 2026, she will no longer be eligible for re-election to that position due to redistricting changes. Place 6 now falls outside of Michelle’s residence, creating a gap year in her eligibility for re-election.

Michelle’s dedication to serving LISD led her to make a strategic decision. Rather than waiting until 2027 to run for Place 1, she has chosen to run in the upcoming May 2024 election. By seeking election to Place 1, where she resides, Michelle ensures continuity in her service and the ability to continue advocating for students, teachers, and families.

In her own words, Michelle expressed her commitment: “I have cherished and loved every moment serving Lewisville ISD over the past 9 months. However, due to the lawsuit’s timing and my address, my term would conclude in May 2026, with Place 6, where I do not reside. To continue serving and having the ability to run for another term, I intend to run for Place 1 in May 2024.”

During her tenure as a Trustee, Michelle has actively engaged with the public and community members. Her involvement includes participation in numerous committees, campus visits to connect with teachers and students, and attendance at city events across LISD’s 13 municipalities. She has consistently advocated for the district’s interests and worked collaboratively with all stakeholders.

Before her election to the LISD Board, Michelle dedicated over 7 years to supporting LISD’s students and teachers. Her leadership roles include serving as the president of the Lewisville ISD Council of PTAs and holding positions on four LISD campuses. Additionally, Michelle collaborated with the Texas PTA on leadership committees and continues to contribute to several LISD programs and committees.

Michelle’s educational background as a former teacher and her commitment to community engagement uniquely position her to serve the diverse needs of LISD students and families.

As the May 2024 election approaches, Michelle Alkhatib invites the LISD community to join her in shaping the future of our district. Her candidacy represents her commitment to excellence and collaboration. Together, we can build a stronger LISD for all.
